2024-2025 Awards and Scholarships
Funding Available to Support Study Abroad With Arizona in Orvieto, Italy:
General Arizona in Orvieto Award:
Awards of up to $500 are available for any University of Arizona student enrolled in CLAS/RELI 305 and/or CLAS 335 through the Arizona in Orvieto, Italy Study Abroad Program. Priority will be given to majors or minors in the Department of Religious Studies & Classics, but all U of A students (with any major/minor) can apply. The number and amount of awards will be determined by the number and quality of applications received.
Arizona in Orvieto Award for Majors in Classics and/or Religious Studies:
Additional monetary awards are available for majors in Classics, Religious Studies, and/or RSHP who are enrolled in CCLAS/RELI 305 and/or CLAS 335 through the Arizona in Orvieto, Italy Study Abroad Program. The number and amount of awards will be determined by the number and quality of applications received. Majors in the department will be considered for both the General Award and the Majors Award.
Cynthia White Travel and Study in Italy Award
Several awards of $250 are available for University of Arizona students enrolled in a UArizona Classics course while participating in Study Abroad programs in Italy.
SILLC Global Award for SILLC Majors:
Awards of up to $1,500 are available to SILLC majors to support participation in Study Abroad. SILLC majors include Classics, Religious Studies, Italian Studies and more. More information and application instructions can be found on the SILLC Global Award Fund webpage.
College of Humanities Scholarships:
Numerous scholarships are available for College of Humanities majors (Classics, Religious Studies, etc.), including the FEARLESS INQUIRIES ABROAD scholarship ($2,000) and other scholarships.
Funding for Winter Session Study of Ancient Greek or Latin:
For UA students interested in enrolling in GRK 101 or LAT 101 in Winter 2024, the Department is offering multiple scholarships for full or partial support of Winter Session tuition. To be eligible for this funding, students must commit to enrolling in GRK 102 or LAT 102 in the Spring 2025 semester.
UA Classics Endowed Prizes
The Richard C. Jensen Prize
The Richard C. Jensen Prize is awarded annually to a Classics undergraduate major who has shown outstanding ability in Latin (by faculty nomination). This prize carries a monetary award.
The Thomas D. Worthen Prize
The Thomas D. Worthen Prize is awarded annually to a Classics undergraduate major who has shown outstanding ability in Ancient Greek (by faculty nomination). This prize carries a monetary award.

The UA Department of Classics' Outstanding Undergraduate in Classics Award acknowledges high-level academic performance as well as excellence outside the classroom in the form of independent research and/or exemplary community service (by faculty nomination).

The Ariana Mercedes Economou/Hellenic Cultural Foundation Excellence in Modern Greek Award
The Hellenic Cultural Foundation honors an outstanding UA student each year.
Hellenic Cultural Foundation (HCF) Scholarships
- The Hellenic Cultural Foundation is an independent organization of the Greek community of Tucson. The HCF helped to found the Modern Greek Studies Program at the University of Arizona in 1984. In recent years, it has promoted excellence in the study of Greek language and culture (both ancient and modern) by offering annual scholarships to qualified students, who are enrolled in the Modern Greek Studies Program or are majoring in Ancient Greek Language or Civilization. Society for Classical Studies (SCS) Awards
- Lionel Pearson Fellowship for outstanding students in their final year of undergraduate study for a period of study at an English or Scottish university
- Frank M. Snowden Jr. Undergraduate Scholarships for undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups to support summer study of classics or classical archaeology with opportunities not available during the school year.

Eta Sigma Phi Summer Scholarships
Eligibility: ETA SIGMA PHI members and alumni who have received a B.A. within the past 8 years or will have received it in during the current year, and who have not received a doctoral degree.
American School of Classical Studies at Athens Summer Sessions
Open to graduate and advanced undergraduate students. There are two summer sessions every year: Session I begins about the end of the first week of June and lasts two weeks, and Session II begins about the third week of June and lasts about six weeks.
