I followed up my B.A. in Latin with a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems and ended up as an independent consultant. Having a strong Classics and Humanities background was, I think, part of what made me successful at my job and kept me in very high demand throughout my career (I'm 90 percent retired now). Being able to look at business problems with a broader perspective was a valuable skill. And the direct knowledge from my B.A. was helpful as well, since many of my clients are outside of the United States. Picking up a new language becomes easier the more you practice and the vocabulary and grammar of Latin helped me immeasurably in working in Western Europe and parts of Africa.
