"Rome: The Legacy of the Eternal City” at the UA Museum of Art September 2015 through January 2016

Rome: Legacy of an Eternal City

…To the Eternal City. ‘Tis the centre
To which all gravitates. One finds no rest
Elsewhere than here. There may be other cities
That please us for a while, but Rome alone
Completely satisfies. It becomes to all
A second native land by predilection,
And not by accident of birth alone.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1807-1882

The city of Rome has been viewed in many ways over time. This sweeping exhibition, a collaboration between the UA Museum of Art and Professor Cynthia White of the UA Classics Department, examines Rome through different lenses including landscape views of the ancient city, myths and allegory, and the Grand Tour. Related programming includes a teacher workshop on September 25, an inter-disciplinary symposium on October 6, and an evening of travel writing and poetry at the University of Arizona Poetry Center on October 17. A Roma!
