Prof. Eleni Hasaki Honored with 2024 Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award

Professor Eleni Hasaki was recognized with the 2024  Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award. This award recognizes faculty who demonstrate a long-standing commitment to excellence in graduate education, including mentoring, professional development, and a dedication to diversity and inclusion. The recommending faculty highlighted in the nomination letter how Eleni Hasaki “exemplifies the highest standards of academic mentorship and pedagogical excellence.” Her unparalleled dedication to her graduate students in both the Classics and Anthropology programs on campus as well as in doctoral and postdoctoral advising internationally sets her apart as an incredible mentor, teacher, and advisor in our academic community. In the award letter, Professor Hasaki’s “compassionate and engaging approach to graduate student mentoring in the classroom, in the field, and in life” was singled out. She has been a strong graduate student advocate and bolster students beyond the classroom. “Graduate school is a microcosm of real life where students can embrace passion and perseverance for life-long growth and well-being. I am honored to be part of this transformational journey with my students!” Professor Hasaki said.

Karen Seat, Head of the Department of Religious Studies and Classics, stated: "Dr. Hasaki has been tireless in her contributions to the graduate program in Classics at the University of Arizona. Through her work as the graduate advisor for the Classical Archaeology emphasis in our MA program, she has devoted extensive energy to mentoring students and preparing them for their academic and career goals. Students for whom she served as the primary advisor have matriculated into PhD programs at Harvard, the University of Michigan, UC-Berkeley, NYU, UTexas, Bryn Mawr, and Brown University. Her contributions to the success of graduate students at the University of Arizona are very much appreciated."

Awardees are recognized at the annual Awards of Distinction celebration (Oct. 30, 2024).
