The Department of Classics is proud to announce that its search for
two Visiting Assistant Professors has been successfully completed with
the hiring of Drs. Robert Groves and Alexandra Kennedy.
Dr. Groves received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 2012 for his dissertation
“Cross-Language Communication in Heliodorus' Aethiopica.” His areas
of expertise include the Greek Novel, Ancient Multilingualism, and
Greco-Roman Geography and Ethnography and their Renaissance
Reception.

Dr. Kennedy received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington for
her dissertation “Leaving Rome: Alienation from and Attachment to
the City in Augustan Literature.” Her specialties include Augustan
Literature, Roman Topography, Roman Historiography, and Latin
Elegy.

This fall, Dr. Kennedy will teach CLAS 305 (Greek & Roman Religion), GRK 201 (Intermediate Greek I), and LAT 400 (Republican Prose). Dr. Groves will be teaching CLAS 160D1 (America & Antiquity), CLAS 250A (Survey of Greek Literature in Translation), and GRK 4/530 (Greek Historians).
