EXPLORE ITALY: SPRING BREAK IN ITALY March 1-10, 2019 (3 credits)

Professor Cynthia White will lead this spring break academic tour of Italy to visit the material and cultural remains of antiquity.

THE COURSE:

From January through the end of February, we will meet once a week in the three-credit course CLAS 310 Rome in Film.

THE TRIP:

From March 1-10 we travel together through Venice, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Pompeii, and, depending upon the weather, a trip to the Island of Capri. This year we will be in Venice during Carnival! Highlights include:

  • Two nights in Rome, with visits to St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum with free time for our walking tour to the major sites and piazzas—the Pantheon, the Trevi, and the best gelateria in Rome.
  • Two nights in Sorrento, with an important archeological visit to the buried city of Pompeii and, weather permitting, a boat ride to Capri where we can choose to visit the Palace of Tiberius, the Gardens of Augustus and the Blue Grotto.
  • Two nights in Florence, with visits to the Gates of Paradise, the Galleria dell’Accademia to see Michelangelo’s David and the church of Santa Croce, with its tombs of Galileo and Machiavelli.
  • Two nights in Venice, with visits to St. Mark’s Basilica, Bridge of Sighs, and a Venetian glass factory.

The cost includes air fare from Tucson, our stay in three- and four-star hotels, one excellent mea per day, all entrances to sites and museums, all transportation (all travel within Italy on a private motor coach from Venice to Pompeii to Rome!), and knowledgeable tour guides in each city. In our free time, we organize visits to important sites and walking tours to the outdoor piazzas and sites that make up the living museum of Italia bella!

Join us this spring for an academic tour of Italia Bella!
