Application Deadline: April 25, 2022!
In Spring 2022, the department will be offering monetary awards for undergraduate students of Latin. These are in addition to the annual Richard C. Jensen Prize. Details and application instructions are below. The number of awards and award amounts will be determined by the number of successful applications.
First-Year LATIN Award
The award is designated for any University of Arizona undergraduates completing LAT 102 who have enrolled in LAT 201 in the Fall 2022 semester.
Second-Year LATIN Award
The award is designated for any University of Arizona undergraduates completing LAT 202 who have enrolled in LAT 400 in the Fall 2022 semester, and/or Classics majors completing LAT 202.
TO APPLY FOR THIS FUNDING, PLEASE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING TO MARCELA THOMPSON AT marcelathompson@arizona.edu BY April 25, 2022:
- Your University of Arizona transcript. It is fine to send an unofficial transcript.
- A brief letter of application (1-2 pages). Please discuss what you find interesting about studying Latin and/or why you chose to study Latin; any tips and recommendations you have for future students regarding how to succeed when studying Latin; and how you think other students can be encouraged to pursue the study of Latin. At the top of your statement, please include the following:
- The name of the Latin Award(s) for which you are applying (as shown above)
- your name
- your university email address
- your major(s) and minor(s)
- your expected graduation date
- the courses in Latin you will have completed by the end of spring 2022, and any LAT courses you plan to take in the summer or fall of 2022.
