When
10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Feb. 8, 2019

This third installment of our 2019 Graduate Colloqium series, will feature M.A. student Caroline Carter workshopping her paper entitled ""Reconstructing Lykosoura: An Analysis of the Historical, Archaeological, and Architectural Relationship between the Sanctuary of Despoina at Lykosoura and Megalopolis"

Caroline has provided a brief overview of her paper below:

In this paper, I reconstruct the unique mysteries and landscape at the sanctuary of Despoina at Lykosoura in Arkadia and compare it to the evidence for cult worship and architectural remains at the nearby town of Megalopolis. Through the use of philology, archaeology, and architectural analyses, I suggest a more precise date for major constructions at the sanctuary of Despoina and demonstrate Megalopolis' heavy involvement in the mysteries and upkeep of the sanctuary.
