Latin Enrichment Group (Convivium Vates)

This a gathering at which we can read Latin poetry, discuss it, scan it, and even begin to write it—all in a fun and very relaxed, low-stakes setting. These meetings are extracurricular, meaning that you don’t have to prepare anything in advance, and you are welcome to invite friends, other Latinists, and anyone else you think might be interested!

These weekly poetry meetings will take place from 3-5pm on Monday evenings, at the zoom link: https://arizona.zoom.us/j/9161450124?pwd=SUF3dUxYL0daMVN4a1lBUWgyR3BlUT09.

This will be a time during which you can approach Latin poetry in whatever way you would like! I will have some fun, not-too-terribly challenging poems on hand if you are here to get some extra reading experience; I am happy to teach scansion of the line, and to point out some crazy-cool effects the scansion makes; and (for those of you interested) we can also try our hand at writing a bit of poetry. I promise, there is nothing like attempting to write a line of dactylic hexameter to make you appreciate Vergil’s genius!
