I am incredibly honored to be given this opportunity to study abroad in Orvieto, Italy this upcoming summer. There is no better place to study Latin than in Rome, and I am excited to take my first trip outside of North America! I have studied Latin for five years now, and I am ready take to my learning to the country where the language originated in order to immerse myself in culture and history. I cannot wait for this life-changing experience and all of the knowledge I will be able to acquire while I am studying abroad in Italy! Thank you.

I'm excited to see the monuments and places where they were built. I took Latin because I like to see where things come from, and through this trip, I'll get to see the places from which much of western architecture and culture was derived. I'm also excited to experience a new country and meet new people both those who live in Orvieto and those who also go on this study abroad trip.

I believe the Orvieto Summer Program can be meaningful and helpful to my graduate study from various aspects.  As Orvieto is an Etruscan settlement, it can act as a case study to show me how the Romans assimilated the customs, architecture, language, and practices of other cultures.  Additional excursions to other Italian cities will offer a panorama of Roman architecture and culture allowing me to match the buildings and places in these areas to those mentioned in the ancient texts that we have read.  These trips will provide archeological and historical knowledge to help me become a well-rounded classicist.
