Performance: an Iliad

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 situation, this event (originally scheduled for 4/1/20) has been postponed until further notice.

Southwest Shakespeare Company presents An Iliad, by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, based on the epic poem by Homer as translated by Robert Fagles. This 95 minute solo piece consists of one man who witnessed The Trojan War and who tells the story of it both from his own perspective and while impersonating all of the major characters, from Achilles and Hector to Helen of Troy. Throughout the play he both quotes directly from the original poem and comments on the action to the audience. Bridging the past with the present, the play explores mankind’s warlike nature throughout the millennia, and questions human nature’s capacity for change.

This event is free and open to the public!

Sponsored by the Student/Faculty Interaction Grants Program and the UA Department of Religious Studies and Classics.
